The 'Crooked Wings' story begins.   Zelrik, out of the 4 protagonists of Birdsong: Crooked Wings, is the only birb who actually wanted the job that they have. However, when he was young, Violet Fulgurite was nowhere near as important as it has become. As a young aristocrat, he was enthralled with the substance, which his family dismissed as unwholesome demon magic. So he had to pursue his dreams on his own, without support. And in his own private laboratories, a mishap resulted in him being physically malformed: his entire right side is blighted, with his leg being misshapen and his eye now dimly lit with a baleful purple hue.  Zelrik's parents view him as a disgrace, and blame him for bringing shame on them. He returns their negative feelings, feeling that if he had always had their support, he wouldn't be as handicapped as he now is Zelrik is comfortable with interpersonal conflict. At his best, he is a fierce ally to the downtrodden and oppressed. The 'Crooked Wings' story begins. Tawnette, of the 4 protagonists of Crooked Wings, has the most healthy relationship with her siblings (if any?) and parents. Disabled by a stroke in her youth, she does not blame her family for it, and they do not blame her. They just want her to be happy. Her family has some distress over her new field of work (Violet Fulgurite work is known to not be particularly safe, even for Technicians like her), especially because they're concerned she has an active death-wish. Her parents are entirely off the mark; while Tawnette does not directly seek death, she views the prospect of dying on the job as a way for her to escape her daily ritual of waking up from her dreams to find herself unable to paint or draw (and if she gets some workman's comp from life insurance? that's an added bonus). Tawnette is very good at picking up on social offenses. At her best, Tawnette is empathetic and caring. At her worst, she is inclined to respond to failure by flopping over in a very sad puddle.  REPERTOIRE :     Joyful Spark     Starlight Dream      Playful Pivot      Storm Serenade 1. Role in the Story Narrative Purpose : Their role in the larger narrative of Birdsong. Character Arc : How they evolve throughout the story or across different stories. Conflict and Resolution : Personal conflicts and their resolutions, if any. 2. Physical and Mental Health Health Issues : Tawnette's stroke has greatly reduced her ability to express herself. Her speech is broken and simplistic, and her attempts to write do not fare any better. She is also unable to paint, draw, or sculpt like she once did.  Coping Mechanisms : How they deal with stress, adversity, and trauma. 8. Quotes and Dialogues Memorable Quotes : Key phrases or dialogues that capture their essence. Voice : How they speak or communicate, including accents or unique speech patterns. 9. Back to List of Characters   Veezal One of the four protagonists of Crooked Wings , along with  Zelrik ,  Kaiyara , and Tawnette .  Birthday: 14-8-534 in Nymska of the Vyerakh Empire Brief timeline:  Age 0-18, finishes primary and secondary education  Age 18-22, tertiary education in history and literature Age 22-27 repeated failures at the family business Age 27, present day, shows up in  Cordann . The 'Crooked Wings' story begins.   Veezal has a lot of cousins and his share of siblings. But most of them behave in manners deemed appropriate by the Birb-German nobility he belongs to. Not Veezal. He's always been distractible, moody, and combative.  His family pushes him towards Violet Fulgurite work in the far off lands of Cordann (where the story takes place), telling him that he can win them some money and prestige there in the lucrative industry. The unspoken part is that he can't embarrass them anymore if he emigrates.  Because Veezal was raised with concerns about how as a Princeling that the family's identity and his identity are one and the same, he's shrugged off a good deal of their annoyance (instead of loathing them for failing to tolerate and/or love him) Veezal is quite rational when it comes to negative outside feedback, and isn't preoccupied with whether others find him special or not. At Veezal's best, he is creative and brilliant. At his worst, he is likely to ignore how his thoughts and actions may hurt himself and others.  Inspirational music (references):    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=W-gN-rUxtio ( The Edge of Green by Yoko Shimomura)      I feel like this is a good example of a 'fight song' for Veezal. It represents his undying confidence. even when faced with overwhelming odds.  REPERTOIRE :      Zealous Thorn      Blitzballad     Assertion     Wreathed In Knives 1. Unique Attributes Skills and Talents : Special abilities, skills, or talents unique to them. Magical Abilities : If applicable, detail their magical powers or connections to the world's magic system. 7. Physical and Mental Health Health Issues : Veezal suffers from severe Attention Deficit Hyperactive Disorder, but current medical literature merely labels this as 'a childhood case of the fidgets'. He therefore is unmedicated and struggles to adjust to an office job in an industry that he isn't particularly attached to. Coping Mechanisms : How they deal with stress, adversity, and trauma. 8. Quotes and Dialogues Memorable Quotes : Key phrases or dialogues that capture their essence. Voice : How they speak or communicate, including accents or unique speech patterns. 9.
